On Sunday, June 22, a small but mighty group from our team had the opportunity to volunteer at Rodney’s Oyster House in Calgary for their much-anticipated annual event — Rodney’s Oyster Festival. Representing our organization were Richard Lee, Danielle Leger, Carolyn Geertsen, and Barb Dolter. We spent the afternoon contributing our time and energy to a cause that resonates deeply within our community: supporting The Mustard Seed.
Over the course of 4.5 hours, we helped with various aspects of the festival — the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, laughter, and, of course, the unmistakable aroma of freshly shucked oysters. After our volunteer shift, we took some time to enjoy the event ourselves, indulging in delicious food and refreshing beverages while connecting with fellow attendees and soaking in the festive vibe.
What made the day even more meaningful was knowing the reason behind it all. Each year, Rodney’s selects a local charity to receive the proceeds from their Oyster Festival, and for the third year in a row, they’ve chosen The Mustard Seed. Their unwavering support helps provide meals, shelter, and essential services to those experiencing poverty and homelessness in our community.
Volunteering for this event was not only a way to give back but also a reminder of the power of collaboration and local businesses coming together to make a difference. We’re grateful to have been part of it and look forward to future opportunities to support such impactful causes.
